Jan Paul van Hecke is out of the matchday squad against Sunderland due to illness. Diego Coppola and Olivier Boscagli start at the heart of defence for Brighton as Lewis Dunk also misses out due to suspension.
Fabian Hurzeler said: “Of course Lewis is a big miss, but we also have a big confidence in our players who will replace him.”

Last time out at the Amex, the Albion drew 1-1 against West Ham thanks to a late equaliser from Georginio Rutter, who starts as captain today for the first time in his Brighton career.
Sunderland have been in immense form this season and currently sit eighth on 26 points. They come into this game on the back of a 1-0 victory in the highly-anticipated Tyne-Wear Derby.

Hurzeler spoke highly of his former player, he said: “I wish him only the best because he definitely deserves it… Hopefully he’s not able to score.”
The last time Brighton and Sunderland faced each other was in a League Cup match back in 2011 when the Amex had recently opened. Brighton won 1-0 in extra time thanks to a Craig Mackail-Smith winner.
