Benfica defender Amar Dedic is currently linked with a move to Liverpool, but chances are you haven’t heard of him. So, who is he?

Dedic is a Bosnian right-back who joined Benfica last summer from RB Salzburg for a fee in the region of €12 million. The 23-year-old has hit the ground running in Portugal, capturing the attention of Liverpool and previously Manchester City.

The Reds are currently without both Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley due to injury. The Club previously shortlisted Dedic to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, but opted for Frimpong.

Dedic is known for being solid defensively, winning 70 duels in the Primeira Liga this season. He has also helped his side keep six clean sheets across the league and Champions League.

The 23-year-old is also able to contribute going forward and progress the ball from deep. He ranks first for progressive carries per 90 amongst Primeira Liga full-backs. This season, Dedic has provided three assists and scored one goal.

In recent years, Dedic has been linked with Chelsea, Newcastle, and Roma, but a move never materialised. Although RB Salzburg is where Dedic made his name, he has also previously played for Marseille and Wolfsberger AC.

He came up through the academy ranks at FC Liefering before signing for the Bulls in 2019. Dedic also played for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s youth teams and made his senior debut in March 2022. Since then, he’s played for his country 24 times.

According to Caught Offside, Benfica are reluctant to sell key players mid-season. Dedic isn’t out of contract until June 2030, so the Eagles would make a hefty profit on the young star should they choose to sell him.
