Cole Palmer could start tonight for the first time in a month as Chelsea visit Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Palmer hasn’t started a game since the opening game of the season against Crystal Palace due to a groin injury. He came off the bench against Brentford on the weekend and score in their 2-2 draw.

Enzo Maresca, Chelsea boss, said: “In the last game, Cole wasn’t 100 per cent fit to play 90 minutes. Tomorrow, we will put out our best 11 for the game.

“Cole three days ago didn’t play from the start because he wasn’t able to do that, so we will see tomorrow,” he added.

Maresca confirmed that Robert Sanchez will start in goal for the Blues ahead of Jorgensen.

Chelsea will need their best players available in order to earn a rare victory over Vincent Kompany’s team. Bayern Munich have won three of their last four games against Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League.

Their last meeting was in August 2020, where Bayern smashed Chelsea 4-1 in the Champions League Round of 16 on their way to winning the title.

The hosts remain without Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala who have been out of action since the start of the season. Raphael Guerreiro suffered an abdominal injury at the weekend against Hamburg, ruling him out too.

Chelsea loanee, Nicolas Jackson, is eligible to feature for Bayern Munich as UEFA rules allow players to compete against their parent clubs.

Bayern captain Harry Kane suggested a chance against Chelsea could inspire a performance from Jackson. Kane said: “If he plays tomorrow, he’ll be eager to impress.”

Kane is still the main man up top for Bayern and has a decent record against the Blues, registering eight goal contributions in 16 league appearances.

The Englishman is feeling optimistic about his chances of adding to that tally tonight.

He said: “I always back myself to score goals… I have a lot of self-confidence right now.”
