Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has denied claims he threatened to quit over Marc Guehi’s collapsed Liverpool move, calling the speculation “inaccurate.”

The rumours emerged after Palace pulled the plug on a £35 million deal for their captain late on deadline day. Speaking publicly for the first time, Glasner clarified: “I never threatened to leave the club. I said, ‘Steve, honestly we can’t manage it in the short term.’ Big credit to the chairman, I didn’t have to threaten anyone.”

He also commended Guehi’s conduct throughout the saga, highlighting the defender’s professionalism. “Big credit to Marc, who handled it very well,” Glasner added. Despite intense Premier League interest, Guehi trained, performed, and led his team without making public demands to leave, impressing both management and supporters alike.

Palace’s decision to retain Guehi followed complications with his intended replacement. Brighton’s Igor Julio, who was lined up as the new central defender, had a medical at Selhurst Park before opting to join West Ham instead.

Glasner confirmed this would be his final comment on the matter, signalling a return to focus on the Premier League campaign. The clarification removes uncertainty about the manager’s position and reinforces Palace’s commitment to stability following a chaotic transfer window.

With Guehi now staying, attention turns to the squad’s performance on the pitch, and how Palace can balance ambition with maintaining key leaders in the squad.
