What happened during match day six?

The weekend commenced at St James’ Park where Anthony Gordon salvaged a point for Newcastle against Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side were making headlines all week as fans anticipated the first of many matches without Rodri and this result highlighted his impact once again. City dropped two points taking them to 14 points, Arsenal capitilised later on with a 4-2 win against Leicester and are now level on points.

Cole Palmer scored four against Brighton to lead his side to a 4-2 victory at Stamford Bridge. Brighton took the initial lead through record-signing Georginio Rutter but couldn’t handle Chelsea’s rapid forward line. The only positive for Brighton fans will be than rivals Crystal Palace lost to Everton 2-1, that was the Toffee’s first victory of the campaign.

Nottingham Forest’s unbeaten run was ended by Fulham as Morgan Gibbs-White’s absence proved detrimental and Liverpool narrowly beat struggling Wolves 2-1. On Sunday, Liam Delap scored a brace to help Ipswich earn an unlikely point against Aston Villa. Tottenham smashed Manchester United in a disastrous performance as Old Trafford, putting Erik ten Hag’s job under more pressure than ever. The game week was concluded on Monday night as Bournemouth enjoyed a routine victory against Russell Martin’s Southampton.

What did we learn?

No Rodri sees City drop points – Man City were without Rodri for the first time since his ACL injury which he picked up against Arsenal in game week five. They took an early lead through Josko Gvardiol but couldn’t build on that and paid the price. City dominated possession with 62% but couldn’t turn it into goals. They had an xG of just 0.91 from 16 shots, perhaps they needed a long range finish from their Spanish midfielder to collect all three points.

Cole Palmer makes history to end Brighton’s unbeaten run – Palmer destroyed the Albion on Saturday with his four goals and made history in the mean time. He became the first player in Premier League history to score four goals before half-time in a single match, and scored the sixth fastest hat-trick in Premier League history (nine minutes and 46 seconds). That four-goal haul was scored in the space of 19 minutes and 57 seconds, which has led to many asking questions as to whether Palmer has outgrown Chelsea.

Spurs pile pressure on Ten Hag’s future – Ange Postecoglu’s tactics have come under scrutiny in recent weeks but there was no arguing with the approach on Sunday. Spurs’ high intensity and front footed football overwhelmed United who put on a terrible show at Old Trafford. Tottenham scored just three minutes in as Micky Van de Ven travelled 56 yards before squaring the ball to Brennan Johnson for an easy tap in. Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke also got on the score sheet to put Erik ten Hag’s time at United in the balance. Moment of match day six:

The best moment this week came in the post match interview following Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Wolves. Ibrahim Konate was not happy with the decision to give teammate Ryan Gravenberch the Player of the Match award and felt he deserved it instead.

Konate scored the opening goal to give Liverpool an early lead but also made an error leading to Wolve’s equaliser. Mohamed Salah won the game from 12 yards, bailing Konate out of jail but the Frenchman still believed he should have won the award; take a look.
