Liverpool advance to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup after they beat Wolves 3-1 away from home. Curtis Jones’ composed long-range finish, coupled with two quickfire goals from Andy Robertson and Mohammed Salah, ensured the Reds’ progression.

Despite a first half with very little to shout home about, Liverpool came out all guns blazing in the second half.

The opener came when Salah picked up the ball on the right flank and found Curtis Jones, who released the ball to Robertson. The Scotsman got the ball out of his feet and lashed it into the bottom corner.

It was a beautifully struck effort to break the deadlock. And moments later, he set up Liverpool’s second.

Straight from the Wolves restart, Liverpool won back possession and Rio Ngumoha quickly picked out Robertson on the left wing. His drilled pass across the face of goal fell to Salah who made no mistake from close range.

Although the goal was initially ruled out for offside, VAR overturned the on-pitch decision. Within 95 seconds of the first goal, the visitors led 2-0.

In the 74th minute, Jones put the cherry on the cake with a left-footed strike past Sam Johnstone. It was the Englishman’s second goal in the competition, after he scored against Brighton in the fourth round.

The hosts netted a consolation goal through Hee-Chan Hwang who went on a solo run to prevent Liverpool from going home with a clean sheet. A tidy finish from the South Korea international but it was too little too late.

17-year-old Ngumoha started in attack for the Reds and paid back the faith shown by manager Arne Slot. He was Liverpool’s brightest spark and will have certainly given Slot a selection headache ahead of his side’s Champions League match against Galatasaray.

While Wolves crash out of the cup, Liverpool will discover their quarter-final opponents on Monday night. The draw begins at 7pm at the London Stadium ahead of West Ham vs Brentford.
