Harry Howell makes his first start for boyhood club Brighton as they get ready to face rivals Crystal Palace at the Amex.
Fabian Hurzeler confirmed in his pre-match press conference that Ayari was out of contention due to a small shoulder injury. However, Diego Gomez is back in the matchday squad after missing out last week against Everton due to injury.
Brighton have just one win in 11 Premier League matches but Hurzeler is determined that his side can get back on track this afternoon.
He said: “We want to try and get this win for the fans. They suffered a lot in the last weeks and it’s our responsibility to promise that we will be fully committed, that we will give everything and then we are convinced that we can get the win.”
The Seagulls boss has never beaten Crystal Palace during his tenure, but a victory today would perhaps win over some of his critics.
Milner starts on the bench today, if substitued on, he will match Gareth Barry’s record for the most Premier League appearances (653).
Hurzeler said: “Milner is a role model… I’m very pleased to work with him. I think (the record) will be a special thing for him.”
Babis Kostoulas is also starting up front ahead of Danny Welbeck, whilst Olivier Boscagli starts alongside Lewis Dunk. Jan Paul van Hecke is out of the matchday squad.
Last time out, the points were shared in a 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park. Crystal Palace are unbeaten in their last three meetings against the Albion, with the host’s last win coming in February 2024.
