Josh Sargent continues to display his class for Norwich City. Having scored 15 goals in the Championship last season and earning a place in the EFL Championship Team of the Season.

There was naturally much interest in the American international this summer. Norwich were able to fend off Wolfsberg, who at one point in time looked to have agreed a deal.

Sargent did not let these rumours and interests distract him from his football, however, and has already registered six goals this season, with five coming in the league. This places him top of the scoring charts, leading Coventry City duo Victor Torp and Haji Wright, as well as Derby County’s Carlton Morris.

The USMNT member has displayed different types of finishes this season already, scoring from outside the box against Blackburn Rovers, while only one of his goals has come from inside the six-yard box against Portsmouth. He also converted a penalty against Blackburn and scored with his left foot in the EFL Cup against Watford.

Sargent places first for shots and shots on target in the Championship, proving his eye for goal. Furthermore, he is the highest-rated player in the Championship by FotMob this season with an 8.00 rating, beating West Bromwich Albion’s Isaac Price and Sorba Thomas of Stoke City.

It is not only in the scoring department that Sargent has impressed, as he has made 11 ball recoveries this season, placing him in the top 5% compared to other forwards in the division. He has also won possession in the final third four times. Sargent has completed 1.30 successful dribbles per 90, which puts him in the top 10% among forward players.

New Norwich signing Papa Diallo is already making an impression at Carrow Road, and could form a key partnership with Sargent as he looks to attack down the left-hand side.

If Sargent is able to remain fit for the duration of the Championship campaign, his goals may be able to drag Liam Manning’s side into a playoff position come the end of the season, something they narrowly missed out on last year.
