Paris Saint‑Germain and Atlético Madrid make their first-ever appearances in the expanded Club World Cup, but neither is a stranger to big finals.

PSG brings confidence after securing their inaugural Champions League title with a 5‑0 demolition of Inter Milan. Atlético, meanwhile, qualified thanks to Spain’s high UEFA four‑year ranking.

PSG coach Luis Enrique emphasised the prestige involved. He said: “Putting your name in the first edition of this tournament is pretty important.”

Atlético Madrid will start their Club World Cup campaign at full strength, no injury absences reported.

Diego Simeone has named an unchanged XI from La Liga, featuring Jan Oblak in goal, a back four of Marcos Llorente, Le Normand, Lenglet and Javi Galán; midfield pivot Barrios and De Paul; wide forwards Giuliano Simeone and Gallagher; and a front two of Julián Álvarez and Antoine Griezmann.

The only potential wrinkle could be tactical: Simeone retaining his 4‑4‑2 setup and trusted starters suggests he prioritizes familiarity and stability.

The first meeting between the two debutantes this season ended 2‑1 to Atlético at Parc des Princes, courtesy of Angel Correa’s stoppage-time winner . PSG will aim to avenge that and sustain their treble-winning momentum but beware of Simeone’s Atlético.

Group B also features Seattle and Botafogo, both potential dark horses. While other football fans may focus on the champions of Europe, La Liga fans spotlight remains firmly on Atlético and whether La Liga’s style translates abroad.

Kick-off: Rose Bowl, Pasadena, June 15, 20:00 (BST).
