What happened during match day 17?
Premier League action begun at Villa Park as former Man City academy prospect Morgan Rogers stole the show in a 2-1 win for Villa. He contributed a goal and an assist, adding to Jhon Duran’s opener.
Nottingham Forest ended Brentford’s impressive home run with a 2-0 victory, whilst Newcastle won 4-0 for the second week in a row, this time against Ipswich.
In London, West Ham shared the points with Brighton and Arsenal smahed Crystal Palace 5-1. However the win was dampened by Bukayo Saka’s hamstring injury which could keep him out for many weeks.
On Sunday, Chelsea and Fulham were held to goalless draws against Everton and Southampton. Scoring goals wasn’t a problem for Wolves though as they started the Vitor Pereira era in style, beating Leicester 3-0 away from home.
Later that afternoon, Bournemouth smashed Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford, meaning they will sit fifth on Christmas Day.
Finally, the weekend ended with a nine-goal affair at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Liverpool won 6-3 against Ange Postecoglu’s side, meaning they are now four points clear at the top of the league.
What did we learn?
City are officially showing relegation form – Since losing Rodri at the start of the season, City have been unrecognisable and now have just one win in their last 12 matches.
In their last five matches, City have earned just four points, less than Crystal Palace and Everton. Additionally, it’s just one more than Ipswich. They have matches against Everton, Leicester and West Ham coming up, so surely they can end this crazy run of poor form.

The Lilywhites have scored 11 goals in their last three Premier League games but have won just one of those, against Southampton. Postecoglu is adamant he always wins things in his second season, but at the moment his side are 11th, 16 points off leaders Liverpool.
Some fans want Postecoglu sacked if the results don’t start coming, so the next three games will be vital for him. They face Forest, Wolves, and Newcastle next, a tough run against some in-form sides.

Their recent 0-0 draws to both Arsenal and Chelsea have allowed the Reds to sit four points clear at the summit with a game in hand. Everton are now four points clear of the relegation zone though, but it must be bitter sweet helping your rivals in their title charge.
Moment of match day 17:
This week, the biggest moment came after Arsenal’s 5-1 win over Crystal Palace, where Mikel Arteta revealed the extent of Bukayo Saka’s hamstring injury.
The English winger is set to be on the sidelines for “many weeks” meaning the Gunners will have to face a long spell without one of the most important players yet again.
Saka has scored five goals this season and provided 10 assists, so his side will need to find another way to win games without him.
