Viktor Gyokeres scored a hat-trick in Sporting Lisbon’s 4-1 victory against Manchester City. The Swede upstaged Erling Haaland in his biggest audition yet.

The Swedish forward caught the eye of many clubs around Europe last season due to his impressive goal record. Gyokeres scored 43 goals in 50 matches in all competitions in 2023/24.
This season, Gyokeres has scored 20 goals and provided four assists in 17 matches. Five of those 20 goals have come in the Champions League.
Although Gyokeres is a fantastic goalscorer, that’s not all he is limited to. The striker has registered 11 assists and created 74 chances in 43 league matches for Sporting since signing in the summer of 2023.
After going 1-0 ahead early on through Phil Foden, Man City collapsed against the Portuguese champions. Gyokeres levelled the score before half time with a Mesut Ozil like finish, striking the ball into the ground and over Ederson.
In the second half, Gyokeres hit the back of the net twice from the penalty spot, with Maximiliano Araujo scoring to initially put Sporting in front.
Gyokeres has been frequently compared to Haaland, but last night, he showed the Norweigen up. Whilst Gyokeres scored three goals and went home with the match ball, Haaland was left with his head in his hands after missing a penalty in the 69th minute.

Gyokeres is one of the most sought after players in the world currently, with clubs such as Arsenal, Man City and Chelsea all after his signature.
Since the appointment of Ruben Amorim, Man United have also shown a recent interest in the Sporting forward.
The 26-year-old has an £85million release clause in his contract, which expires in June 2028. But according to Sky Germany, that will be reduced at the end of the season to as little as £50m.
