In a Brighton and Hove Albion digital fan event hosted by Jugo, Verbruggen spoke out on Brighton boss Hurzeler’s style of play. He said: “You have to get used to it. It is clear what he wants and I think you can see the team progressing every game. It will take some time but we are on the right track.”

Verbruggen has played in every Premier League game so far this season after securing the number one spot over Jason Steele. He has kept one clean sheets in four matches and conceded seven goals.

After Brighton’s loss at Stamford Bridge, Cole Palmer made headlines for scoring four goals before half-time for the first time in Premier League history. This caused Hurzeler’s tactics to come under question, with fans unhappy with the vulnerable defence.

However Verbruggen showed support for the approach and reassured fans the club are “on the right track”. He also spoke about the start to the 2024/25 campaign as a whole. He said that despite the poor result in game week six, there are still many positives.
