19-year-old’s Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo were the heroes as Manchester United beat rivals Manchester City 2-1 in the FA Cup final.

Man United boss Erik Ten Hag’s job was reportedly on the line regardless of the result but he responded perfectly with a superb victory against City. The Reds were 2-0 ahead at the interval and City failed to mount a late comeback despite being the favourites before kick-off.

Pep Guardiola’s side started brighter, though it was United who had the first opportunity to break the deadlock. Garnacho’s strike was denied by Stefan Ortega but couldn’t be kept quiet for long.

On the half hour mark, Garnacho capitilised on a mix-up at the back between Ortega and Josko Gvardiol to put his side ahead. Just nine minutes later, Mainoo doubled United’s advantage to complete a well-worked team move.

Although substitute Jeremy Doku pulled a goal back, it was too little too late from the Cityzens who were denied a domestic double after winning the league last week.

Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne failed to make an impact in the final, with De Bruyne being subbed off before the hour mark. Haaland did strike the crossbar in the 55th minute but was barely involved throughout the rest of the match.

Against the odds Man United won their 13th FA Cup, whilst endingtheir rivals 35 game unbeaten streak. The question remains as the whether Ten Hag will keep his job due to the cup victory, which is his second in as many seasons. After the full time whistle, the United manager said: “If they (Man United) don’t want me anymore, then I go will somewhere else to win trophies, because that’s what I’ve done my whole career.”
