Manchester United have confirmed the appointment of Michael Carrick as head coach on a temporary basis. The 44-year-old will take charge of the Red Devils until the end of the season.

In a club statement, United have said: “Manchester United is delighted to announce the appointment of Michael Carrick as head coach of the men’s first team until the end of the 2025/26 season.”

Carrick, the head coach, said: “Having the responsibility to lead Manchester United is an honour.”

Darren Fletcher will remain as lead coach of the Under-18s.

Carrick was in charge of United a few years ago following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solksjaer in November 2021. He managed three games before being replaced by Ralf Rangnick.

Jason Wilcox, director of football, said: “Michael is an excellent coach and knows exactly what it takes to win at Manchester United.”

Carrick will take charge of his first game this Saturday afternoon in the Manchester Derby as United host rivals Man City.
