Brighton are now four games without a win after their 0-0 against Sunderland and have failed to score at the Amex for the first time this season.

Brighton took a while to grow into the game but were the better side in the second half. Multiple chances fell to Yasin Ayari in the penalty box, who really should have got on the scoresheet this afternoon.

Ayari’s first golden opportunity came in the 48th minute. He lost his marker in the area and was completely free when the ball fell to him, but the strike sailed over the bar and into the North Stand. Half an hour later, a similar opportunity arose but again the Swede failed to get his head over the ball.

Sunderland dominated the first half and were unfortunate not to be a goal up at the break after a flurry of chances at the final minutes of the half.

They started the second half in the same fashion they ended the first, forcing an incredible save from Bart Verbruggen. Alderete’s header seemed destined for the back of the net, but Verbruggen made a fingertip save onto the crossbar.

Simon Adingra made his return to the Amex after leaving for the Black Cats in the summer. The Ivorian winger received a few boos from the Brighton supporters and was brought off on the hour mark for Romaine Mundle.

Tommy Watson also faced his former club for the first time, he replaced Brajan Gruda in the final minutes.

Despite the result, it will be a proud day for Joel Veltman who made his 150th appearance for the Seagulls. He came on for Mats Wieffer at half-time, who, despite Carlos Baleba’s absence, didn’t get a chance in his favoured midfield position.
