Real Madrid produced a thrilling comeback to defeat Mallorca 2–1 at the Santiago Bernabéu on Saturday, climbing to the top of La Liga with their third straight win of the season.
Mallorca stunned the home crowd early when Vedat Muriqi capitalized on a defensive lapse to put Mallorca ahead. Madrid’s response was in the 37th minute when Arda Güler found space in the box and scored an equalizing goal.
Moments later, Vinícius Júnior turned the game with a solo effort of weaving past defenders before finishing to give Madrid the lead.
By the second half, Kylian Mbappé thought he had almost extended the advantage, only for VAR to chalk off his goal for offside.
Another Madrid strike was also ruled out after a lengthy review, keeping Mallorca in the contest. In the dying stages, Álvaro Carreras produced a crucial goal-line clearance to preserve the result.
Despite the frustration of disallowed goals, Madrid’s fighting spirit was able to power through the match and secure all the three points. With nine points from three matches, Real Madrid now sit on top of the League table.
