Jack Hinshelwood, one of our own. The Brighton boy made his mark last season, but he’s become a key starter under Fabian Hurzeler this year.

Hinshelwood is a central midfielder by trade but has shown his versatility this season by filling in at right back. His numbers aren’t the most impressive, but those who watch him week in, week out, know the impact he’s having at Brighton.

In the Albion’s recent match against Leicester, Hinshelwood played a full 90 at right back. He struggled against the Foxes’ Stephy Mavididi but this was because he was forced to play out of position for the tenth time this season.

Going forward, Hinshelwood provided much more. He created one chance, made three passes into the final third and had three touches in the opposition’s penalty area.

He was active in the build up, completing 41 passes (84% accuracy) and supported play down the flank with Yankuba Minteh to overload the opposing full-back.

Over the course of this season, the 20-year-old has shown off his impressive heading ability, tactical intelligence and composure in possession.

His header against Nottingham Forest was his first of the season and what a header it was. A powerful bullet to get off the mark in 2024/25.

His understanding of various tactical approaches has highlighted a maturity beyond his years under Fabian Hurzeler. He knows when to sit and protect alongside his defenders and when to push high to support attacks.

His composure in tight areas has been particularly good this season. His short passing is the best, suggesting that quick, intricate play is where he feels most at ease. It’s almost like he’s a midfielder!

This season, he has a 92% short pass accuracy (passes between five and 15 yards). Additionally, he holds onto the ball well, he’s only been dispossessed twice all season, according to FotMob.

Next season, as teammates return from long term injuries, it will be great to see Hinshelwood excel in his favoured centre-midfield position. The local lad’s potential is sky high.
