What happened during match day 14?
Premier League action got underway at Portman Road where Crystal Palace picked up their first away win of the season.
Ruud van Nistelrooy’s reign as Leicester boss started in style as his side beat West Ham 3-1.
Wednesday night full of action, 25 goals were scored across the six matches. At Goodison Park Everton smashed Wolves 4-0. Manchester City got back to winning ways against Nottingham Forest and Chelsea smashed Southampton 5-1.
Aston Villa got their first win in nine matches as Ollie Watkins starred against his former side Brentford.
Arsenal’s set pieces proved effective once again as they overcame Manchester United from two corners.
Liverpool failed to win for the first time in seven games, as Newcastle salvaged a late point in a six goal thriller.
On Thursday, Brighton fell short at Craven Cottage as Alex Iwobi starred in a 3-1 victory. Bournemouth beat Tottenham 1-0 as Dean Huijsen scored his first goal for the club.
What did we learn?
Chelsea are back – The Blues have started this season in fine form, so maybe it’s time to admit Chelsea are back. They’ve suffered just two defeats this season and are second above both Arsenal and Manchester City.
With so many young players with an abundance of potential in that squad, there is surely no limits to the heights Enzo Maresca’s side can reach.
Man City are back on track – After a long run without a win, Pep Guardiola’s side finally picked up three points. Now perhaps, they can push forward and get back into the form of Champions League.
Next up, they face Crystal Palace who are in a relegation battle. A straightforward victory on paper, but only time will tell if City can avoid another blip.
Liverpool aren’t perfect – Newcastle pressured the Reds throughout the entirety of their Wednesday night clash at St James’ Park.
However when Mo Salah got his brace it seemed written in the stars that Liverpool would pick up yet another win.
The points were lost in the 90th minute when Caoimhin Kelleher made an error that led to Fabian Schar scoring the equaliser. Liverpool are still sitting comfortably at the top, but Newcastle proved they aren’t impossible to stop.
Moment of match day 14:
This week, the best moment came during Chelsea’s 5-1 win over Southampton on the South coast.
The Chelsea fans sung: “We’ve got our Chelsea back”.
The chant may not seem like a lot, but considering what Chelsea fans have gone through over the past few seasons, that chant serves as a huge reminder of how far the Blues have come since the appointment of Enzo Maresca.
This season, Chelsea have won eight of their 14 matches and sit second behind Liverpool.
