Ollie Watkins haunted his old club Brentford as Aston Villa got back to winning ways with a 3-1 victory.

The English striker assisted Morgan Rogers’ opener and then doubled Villa’s advantage with a precise finish from the penalty spot.

Mark Flekken guessed the right way and got a hand to Watkins’ effort but the ball wriggled past him and into the bottom right corner.

It was his fifth goal in as many games against the Bees.

The Villains scored their three goals in just 34 minutes. Rogers broke the deadlock with a beautiful curling strike into the top corner.

Matty Cash scored the third six minutes after Watkins’ penalty to put the game to bed before the interval.

Rogers found Cash at the back post and the Poland international smashed the ball past Mark Flekken.

There was a call for offside as Watkins appeared to affect play from an offside position, but VAR did not intervene and the goal stood.

Brentford hardly troubled Villa but Mikkel Damsgaard pulled a goal back early on in the second half. The Bees gained some momentum but did not take advantage of it.

Villa saw out the rest of the match to earn their first win in nine games across all competitions.

The 3-1 win meant Villa soared back into the top half. They now sit seventh on 22 points, just 4 points off the top four.

Brentford on the other hand dropped down to ninth place, as their poor form on the road continued.
