Aston Villa striker, Ollie Watkins, said Morgan Rogers’ last gasp winner against Juventus would have been allowed in the Premier League.

Morgan Rogers was controversially denied winner in the final kick of Aston Villa’s 0-0 draw against Juventus in the Champions League.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Watkins said: “I think it’s soft. In the Premier League I think that’s a goal.”

Watkins added: “In Europe the goalkeepers are protected a lot by the referees.”

Despite the full-time frustrations, the point does put Villa in ninth position and are one of seven teams on 10 points in the Champions League.

Reflecting on the point gained, Watkins said: “That game had 0-0 written all over it, the most important thing is the point.”

Aston Villa manager, Unai Emery, insisted he was “very happy with the point” despite the “very soft contact” denying his side the winner

In regards to the disallowed goal, Emery said: “It’s the interpretation of the referee… we have to accept it”.

Next up, Villa face RB Leipzig away from home and Juventus will take on Manchester City in Turin.
