John McGinn broke the deadlock in the 55th minute to give Villa a well-deserved lead.

Nobody got on the end of his inswinging cross from the right hand side and the ball curled all the way past Lukasz Skorupski.

Jhon Duran doubled the lead nine minutes later, scoring his seventh goal of the campaign.

Morgan Rogers sent in a low-driven cross from the left flank, finding Duran who got across his marking before poking the ball into the bottom-right corner.

The Colombian now averages a goal every 57 minutes across all competitions this season.

Jacob Ramsey had a fantastic chance to add a third in the final play of the match, going through on goal with just the goalkeeper to beat but failed to hold his nerve.

Unai Emery’s side had dominated in the first half but Bologna goalkeeper Skorupski denied them on multiple occasions.

In the second half though, the relatively difficult to break down Bologna looked very open. They struggled to deal with the outslaught of Villa attacks and drop to 28th in the table.

The Italian side are yet to score in the Champions League but came close in the 86th minute as Sam Beukema struck the post.

His near-post header looked set to beat Emiliano Martinez but rebounded off the woodwork and away from danger.

The victory for Villa was their third on the bounce in Europe which matches a streak they achieve back in 1981.
