The Egyptian forward scored and produced two assists as Liverpool beat Manchester United 3-0; however, the result was dampened for Liverpool fans as Mohamed Salah cast doubt over his future by saying this would be his “last year at the club.”

Talking to Sky Sports, Salah was asked to clarify whether this could be his final appearance at Old Trafford as a Liverpool player, he replied: “I was coming to the game thinking this could be the last time. I just want to enjoy it – we will see what can happen next year.”

However, Liverpool boss Arne Slot responded to Salah’s comments in the post-match press conference. He said: “It’s a lot of ‘ifs’ but at this moment he’s one of ours and I’m really, really happy with him being one of ours.”

Additionally, former Liverpool players Daniel Sturridge and Jamie Carragher played down fears Salah would depart. The pair are convinced the player has “never been happier”.

The 32-year-old is in the final year of his current deal, worth around £350,000 per week. Salah has said he is not wasting mental energy focusing on the situation. Salah’s position has been that Liverpool need to start a dialogue over fresh terms as it is not his job to push for it.

Liverpool are yet to offer an extension meaning the forward could be playing his last season for the club after seven years of service. Salah signed for Liverpool from Roma in 2017 and has gone on to score 166 goals in 260 Premier League appearances since then.
