On Tuesday night, Brighton progressed to the third round of the Carabao Cup after comfortably beating League One outfit Crawley Town 4-0. Here are the top three performers from the match.

Check out my latest podcast for the ratings of all Brighton players that featured in the match.

#3: Jeremy Sarmiento – 7.7

Despite reportedly having a medical at Burnley the following day, Sarmiento started in the cup match at the Amex. He had a fairly quiet first half but grew into the game as it progressed.

His lovely finish to double the Albion’s advantage was the highlight but he also had other moments of brilliance, creating two chances. The Crawley defence struggled to stop him when he was in possession, highlighted by his 10 touches in their penalty area during the match.

#2: Igor Julio – 8.1

Igor was excellent in defence, causing many fans to believe their is no need for a new centre-back despite spending much of this summer wishing for the likes of Mats Hummels. The Brazilian defender won 100% of his tackles and was positive with the ball when he won it, registering eight passes into the final third.

#1: Carlos Baleba – 8.2

The man of the match was Carlos Baleba who should arguably be starting over James Milner in the league but has been out of favour in the initial two matches. Baleba assisted the opening goal from Simon Adingra and created two other chances in the match.

He was everywhere on the pitch, winning the most duels in the match (13) and pressing the Crawley players with incredible intensity for the full 90 minutes.
