What happened during match day two?

After an opening weekend of lowkey scorelines, it was the total opposite this weekend with 32 goals scored compared to last weeks 20.

Erling Haaland scored his seventh Premier League hat-trick in a 4-1 win over Ipswich, Chelsea scored six against Wolves and Spurs smashed Everton 4-0. A thrilling weekend, unless you support one of the sides on the wrong end of those scorelines.

There were some tight affairs too, Joao Pedro scored a 95th minute header to beat Man United and Morgan Gibbs-White provided his captains contribution with the winner against Southampton.

Aston Villa held firm tactically for 65 minutes before Arsenal could breach their defence and come away with a 2-0 win. Leandro Trossard made the initial impact, scoring with his first touch after being subbed on for Gabriel Martinelli.

What did we learn?

Brighton get the best of Manchester United AGAIN – Game week two started on the South Coast as Brighton faced Manchester United. Previosuly, Brighton had beaten the Red Devils on four of the last five occasions, with United’s only victory coming on the final game of last season (2-0). The Albion made it five from six with a last gasp winner from Joao Pedro in front of the North Stand.

Brighton were on the back foot from the get-go but Danny Welbeck gave them the lead on the half hour mark and despite Erik ten Hag’s side scoring three goals, the final score was 2-1 in favour of the home side. It was poor defending for both goals from a United point of view but Brighton didn’t care as they briefly remained top of the league.

Spurs found their shooting boots  – After a missed opportunity to claim three points in their opener against Leicester, Tottenham put on a much more clinical display at home. They emphatically beat Everton 4-0, who have already conceded seven goals this season after their 3-0 loss to Brighton last week.

Yves Bissouma bounced back with a belter to open the scoring, Heung Min Son got a brace and Christian Romero scored on his 100th Spurs appearance. Not a bad afternoon for Ange Postecoglu’s side.

Noni Madueke stars in Chelsea win – After accidently sharing his thoughts on Wolverhampton on social media, Madueke received a fair few boos at the Moleniuex on Sunday. However, he silenced the home fans in the end by scoring a 14 minute hat-trick in the second half. Cole Palmer assisted all three goals to help Madueke earn his first hat-trick.

Moment of match-day two:

Ilkay Gundogan making his return to Manchester City after a year at Barcelona. The last time the German wore a City shirt, he was lifting the Champions League in Istanbul. Upon his return Gundogan said: “When you leave this place you then start to appreciate it even more”. He came on as a substitute in a 4-1 win over Ipswich and received a warm welcome home, take a look:
