Jude Bellingham’s header was enough to earn England their first Euro 2024 victory. The 20-year-old inspired his nation to a narrow 1-0 win over Serbia.

Bellingham opened the Three Lions goalscorers account just 13 minutes in with a powerful header. Bukayo Saka claimed the assist with a perfect cross into the six-yard box after beating his defender with ease.

Kyle Walker had the best chance to double the lead just before half time as he burst in behind the Serbian back line and towards goal. The 34-year-old didn’t seem sure whether to shoot or cross and in the end the attempt on goal went wide.

Harry Kane had a quiet night up top for England, managing just 24 touches, but had one huge chance to double Englands advantage. Jarrod Bowen made an instant impact off the bench, sending a dangerous cross towards the Bayern Munich forward.

Kane met the header well and looked certain to score but was thwarted by Serbia goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic who did brilliantly to palm the ball onto the crossbar.

Serbia had an array of chances in the second half but couldn’t beat Jordan Pickford. England’s number one saved the day on multiple occasions, his best save came in the 83rd minute as he tipped Dusan Vlahovic’s strike over the bar, ensuring his nation held onto all three points.

Despite a nervy second half, Bellingham’s header was the difference and gave England the all important three points. Not perfect from England yet, they have plenty of room to improve before their next match against Denmark.
