Brighton and Hove Albion have confirmed the appointment of former St Pauli boss Fabian Hurzeler. The German has signed a three year deal with the club, replacing Roberto De Zerbi who left in May.

The 31-year-old becomes the youngest head coach in the history of the Premier League. He is younger than six of the first team players at Brighton, including captain Lewis Dunk.

Hurzeler’s managerial career began back in 2016 when he was just 23 years old with fifth tier side FC Pipinsried. He arrives at the Amex having led Bundesliga 2 side St Pauli to the title last season after going 20 games unbeaten and losing just 5 games.

Following his appointment, Hurzeler said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be the new head coach of Brighton & Hove Albion. Brighton have a unique history and a bold vision for the future so I am truly excited to be part of the project.”

Owner Tony Bloom said: “Fabian was always a standout candidate and one who had caught our attention with his exceptional work at St Pauli over the past eighteen months.”

Hurzeler will manage his first competitive game for the Albion in August when the 2024/25 Premier League season begins. The official date of his managerial debut in England will be announced on Tuesday 18 June when the Premier League release the fixture list for the upcoming season.
