On this day in 2017, England beat Venezuela 1-0 to win the U20’s World Cup. Seven years later and some players have gone on to achieve incredible feats, whilst others slipped through the cracks. Keep reading to find out where the starting 11 are now.

Freddie Woodman – Woodman was one of England’s heroes in the final, keeping out a penalty from Venezuela’s Adalberto Penaranda. At the time he played for Newcastle, but only featured nine times before signing for Preston North End in 2022. The 27-year-old goalkeeper has made 94 appearances for the club so far.

Fikayo Tomori –  Former Chelsea centre-back Tomori is now at AC Milan where he has made over 100 appearances and won the Serie A title in 2022. Tomori only has five senior caps though, despite being one of the most highly rated defenders in Italy.

Jake Clark-Salter – Clarke-Salter was also at Chelsea but only ever made one Premier League appearance. He now plays for QPR in the Championship but had stints at Birmingham, Coventry, Sunderland and Vitesse after leaving Chelsea.

Jonjoe Kenny – Kenny left Everton for German club Hertha Berlin in 2022, finishing in mid-table in the 2. Bundesliga last season. He registered three goals and five assists from right back and enjoyed decent individual season overall.

Kyle Walker-Peters – Walker-Peters – then at Tottenham – is a two-cap England international who hasn’t featured for his country in over two years. Although he has just won promotion back to the top flight with Southampton and was included in the Chamionship’s 2023/24 team of the season.

Josh Onomah – Onomah played Premier League football for Tottenham and Fulham but has been a free agent since June 2023 after leaving Preston North End. Although he do go on trial at Stoke City for a short period to maintain his fitness.

Dominic Solanke – Solanke played for Liverpool for two years but only scored one goal in 27 games for the Reds before completing a move to Bournemouth in January 2019. He has made over 200 appearances for the club and has enjoyed his best goalscoring season so far, netting 21 goals in all competitions. He narrowly missed out on the England squad heading to the Euros in Germany.

Lewis Cook – Cook is still at Bournemouth, who he joined in 2016, making 217 appearances for the Cherries. Cook captained the U20’s to their World Cup victory but has played just once for the seniors. This season he played 33 league matches in a successful Bournemouth side under Andoni Iraola.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin – Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored England’s winner against Venezuela in the final, and has made 11 senior appearances for the Three Lions. Calvert-Lewin has scored 68 goals for Everton in 247 games, this season though he only managed eight in all competitions.

Kieran Dowell – Dowell, at Everton when he became a world champion with England, left in 2020 to join Norwich City. He joined Rangers last summer, scoring twice in 16 matches. Dowell never made a senior appearance but played 14 times for the U21’s.

Ademola Lookman – Lookman switched his allegiance from England to Nigeria in 2022 and reached the AFCON 2023 final earlier this year. He has thrived at club level for Atalanta, scoring a match-winning hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen in this season’s Europa League final. Lookman also bagged 11 goals and seven assists in just 22 league starts.
